Revitalization plans

Our community is establishing itself as a moving force in Baltimore City. Here is where we stand, what we have already done, and what we are building towards.

Our plight

A blessing that comes with work attached.

Allah has blessed us with the opportunity to purchase a large piece of real estate, which is now completely paid for, in a prime location within Baltimore City. Owning the building outright is an enormous mercy — but the building itself still needs a great deal of attention.

Baltimore City is the sister city of Washington DC. Over the last two decades DC underwent a dramatic transformation, and much of what happened there is now beginning to happen here. Currently the city is underpopulated, and much of it is in desperate need of refurbishing.

As a community, we are in the unique position to be able to invest in a city on the verge of revitalization — not as speculators, but as neighbours who intend to stay.

Progress

Renovations done so far

Work on the property has been carried out in stages, funded by the community as the means allowed. Confirm the details below with the masjid office before publishing — the specific line items should reflect the actual completed work.

Completed

The building was purchased and paid off in full

The community's first and largest milestone: a permanent home, owned outright, with no debt held against it.

Completed

Prayer hall made usable for daily salah and Jumu'ah

The main hall was cleared, cleaned, and fitted out so that the five daily prayers and the Friday khutbah could be held on site.

Completed

Essential repairs and inspections

Work with city inspectors and counsel to bring the property into good standing and keep it there.

In progress

Interior refurbishment

Ongoing improvements to the prayer space, wudhu facilities, and the areas used for classes.

Note for the masjid: the milestones above are drawn from the existing site's summary. Replace them with the actual completed scope, dates, and costs before this page goes live — donors give more readily to specifics than to summaries.

What's next

Future construction plans

Each phase below expands what the masjid can offer the community.

Phase one

A larger prayer hall

Expanding the main hall so that Jumu'ah no longer overflows, with proper separate space for sisters.

Phase two

Classrooms & weekend school

Dedicated rooms for Qur'an, tajweed, and the children's weekend programme, instead of borrowing the prayer space.

Phase three

Community services wing

A space for the food and financial assistance we already provide, so families can be helped with dignity and privacy.

Note for the masjid: these three phases are a suggested structure, not a published plan. Swap in the real phases, scopes, target amounts, and timelines when they are confirmed — and set revitalization.goal and revitalization.raised in assets/js/site-config.js to switch on the fundraising meter.

How you can help

Three ways to move this forward

Give towards construction

A one-time gift or a monthly sadaqah jariyah — both build the same walls.

Ways to give

Volunteer a skill

Trades, project management, grant writing, design — skills go further than money on a project like this.
